IIn October 1943, Reverend Charlie Johnson, Reverend Vinson and Reverend Thomas were led by the Holy Spirit to organize a new Church body, the Green Grove Baptist Church #2. Green Grove was organized in the home of Deacon and Sister Willie Simpson at 2021 Dearing, some of the first officers of Green Grove Baptist Church were:

           • Reverend Charlie Johnson, Pastor

           • Deacon Willie Simpson, Treasurer

           • Deacon Andrew J. Smith, Financial Secretary

           • Sister Annie Lisby, Church Clerk

           • Reverend Brown Banks, Chairman of the Deacon Board

Members of the Deacon Board

Deacon C. L. Davis, Deacon R. Hill and Deacon Havert H. Minor The official Worship services were held at the Washington School with about sixteen members under the leadership of Reverend Charlie H. Johnson. The Lord soon blessed Green Grove to worship at the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Mosely.

In 1948, as the congregation grew larger, Pastor Johnson saw the need for the church to purchase a new building located at 13108 Riopelle. The church continued to grow and prosper at that location until 1963 when the building and grounds were lost to the Chrysler Freeway Construction Project. Through this joint agreement between the church and the city, Green Grove was able to secure the property in which to build its present church building at 2501 East McNichols Road.

In August 1964, the church moved into its present facility. On August 5, 1973, GOD blessed the church to host its’ Mortgage Burning Service. In 1979, the church purchased two adjacent lots that have since been paved and fenced in for additional parking. On February 10, 1984, after forty-one years of faithful leadership, GOD saw fit to call home Pastor Charlie H. Johnson from labor to reward.

On November 24, 1984, Reverend Luther A. Puckett was elected Pastor of the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church. On October 21, 1991, by the grace of GOD and under the leadership of Pastor Puckett, a ground breaking ceremony was held in the parking lot of Green Grove and work on the renovation of the existing building. We were blessed with new carpet, asphalt repair, a new wrought iron fence, in 1993 a new fifteen passenger Dodge Ram van, and later a new Piano and Hammond Organ. Since then many major purchases and improvements have been made. In April 2013 after 28 years of being our devoted, faithful spiritual leader Pastor Puckett decided to retire. As our Pastor Emeritus, Pastor Puckett continues serving Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church faithfully.

On August 10, 2013 Reverend Antonio L. Pitts was elected as our third Pastor. He was officially installed on Sunday, October 6, 2013. As Pastor Pitts has continued the spiritual leadership of Green Grove these last few years, his efforts and unwavering support has allowed us to be blessed in many ways. Pastor Pitts has added to the ministry with the appointment of three (3) Evangelists within Green Grove. The church has increased its membership, made significant property improvements, and incorporated ministries to strengthen the fellowship both in church and the community.

In 2020 Pastor Pitts successfully enacted measures and utilized PPE to counter the COVID 19 pandemic shut-down and social distancing mandate. Through his commitment to the ministry, he maximized our social media with upgrades to computers, video, and audio equipment and his efforts allowed the ministry to continue to deliver weekly Worship service and Bible study to Green Grove members & on-looking social media friends. GOD has blessed Green Grove with a spiritual leader who is devoted and faithful. We love our Pastor.
